As the largest soybean producer in Europe, Ukraine continues to make strides in sustainable production, exporting a substantial share to the EU and positioning itself as a leader in the non-GM segment.
On October 30, 2024, the XXII International Conference “Fat-and-Oil Industry-2024” by APK-Inform in Kyiv addressed these evolving market dynamics. Volodymyr Pugachov, PhD, Executive Director of Donau Soja Organisation in Eastern Europe, presented on “Soybean market in the EU: prospects and trends for Ukraine,” discussing the impact of new EU regulations like the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Traceability and certification will be critical for importing soybeans into the EU, requiring Ukrainian producers to adopt geo-location tracking, prove deforestation-free status, and meet stringent sustainability standards.
With EU policies such as the CSRD and CSDDD driving accountability, Ukrainian producers have a roadmap to adapt their practices, ensuring they contribute to Europe’s net-zero ambitions and gain a competitive edge. Donau Soja’s Protein Partnership Programme also supports them in certifying non-GM, sustainable and deforestation-free soybeans, paving the way for a resilient future in the EU market.
